Homeowners can rent their property for less than 6 months using websites like VRBO.com and Homeaway.com.
The City of Fort Pierce has established standards, regulations, and enforcement for short term and vacation rentals.
The City Commission adopted Ordinance 21-019 on July 19, 2021, with an effective date of August 3, 2021.
The ordinance includes requirements and standards that homeowners must follow.
The City Commission also established an annual fee of $600.00 per unit for short term and vacation rentals.
The conditional use zoning process for dwelling rentals was eliminated by the Commission on August 2, 2021, via Ordinance 21-020.

The City of Fort Pierce has regulations and standards for STRs.
The City Commission adopted Ordinance 21-019 on July 19, 2021, with an effective date of August 3, 2021.
The registration and renewal fees for STRs were modified on July 1, 2023.
The initial registration fee is $350.00 per unit.
The renewal registration fee is $200.00 annually per unit for rentals with a valid registration for the preceding twelve months.
All STR registrations must be completed by September 30, 2021, to remain compliant with the City Code.
Even if a prior zoning approval was received, STRs still need to be registered with the City and pay the registration fee.
Vacation rentals less than 30 days require a Business Tax Receipt from the City of Fort Pierce in addition to the registration process.
Short term rentals greater than 30 days but less than six months only require the registration process.
The City will increase enforcement efforts to identify unregistered STRs.
