  • Owner-occupied dwellings in R1, R1A, R2, and R3 zones can be used as short-term rentals.
  • Owner-occupants in multi-family dwellings in these zones can use spare apartments for short-term rentals.
  • In all other zones where residences are allowed, dwellings can be used as short-term rentals.
  • Entire dwelling units used as short-term rentals require a temporary use permit issued by the Dept. of Inspection and Standards.
  • Temporary use permits for entire dwelling units must be renewed annually.
  • Private bedroom rentals, where the owner rents out an individual room in their home and resides in the dwelling unit during the rental period, do not require a temporary use permit.
  • All short-term rentals must have basic safety measures in place, including visible printed materials with diagrams of all exits and clearly marked fire extinguishers.
