- The City of Sacramento has regulations in place for short term rentals
- Short term rentals are defined as rentals of residential properties for a period of less than 30 consecutive days
- Short term rentals are subject to Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT)
- TOT is a tax on the privilege of occupying a room or rooms in a hotel, inn, tourist home or house, motel, or other lodging for a period of 30 days or less
- Short term rental hosts are required to obtain a business license from the City of Sacramento
- Hosts must also register their short term rental with the City's Revenue Division
- Short term rental hosts are responsible for collecting and remitting TOT to the City
- The City of Sacramento has a business lookup tool that can be used to search for businesses within the city
- The City's Revenue Division is located at New City Hall, 915 I Street, Room 1214, Sacramento, CA 95814
- The customer service counter at the Revenue Division is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
